Around the table
Billiards has been part of the Institute’s history since its first table was bought in 1883. Snooker, cards and darts also feature in the club’s social story, alongside the pleasure of a little friendly competition.
In good company
There is more to a members’ club than its building. Familiar faces, conversations and friendships are part of what gives the Mechanics its character.
The members’ bar dates from a decision taken in 1948. It became another way for the Institute to sustain itself and bring people together.
A place for Galway life
Over the years, the Mechanics has hosted much more than games. Its history includes a library, debating, evening classes, dances and space for cultural and community activities.
